Get Help for LGBTQ+ People
At NIDAS we understand that domestic abuse can affect anyone – including people in LGBTQ+ relationships. If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary or queer, and you’re experiencing abuse at home, we are here to support you.
We recognise that people from the LGBTQ+ community may face unique challenges when accessing support, including fear of not being believed, concerns about being ‘outed’, or previous negative experiences. NIDAS offers a safe, confidential, and inclusive space where you will be listened to and respected.
What is domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse is when someone you’re in a relationship with, or a family member, hurts you or controls you. This could include:
-
Being physically or sexually hurt
-
Being told what you can and can’t do
-
Having your money taken away or controlled
-
Being threatened or constantly criticised
-
Being isolated from your friends, family or community
-
Threats to ‘out’ you or invalidate your gender identity or sexual orientation
You may feel afraid, unsafe, or that you are walking on eggshells. Abuse can happen to anyone, and it’s never your fault.
If you are not in immediate danger but require support and advice.
