Volunteer, Marie, shares her roles at NIDAS

We would like to welcome Marie who is a volunteer with us here at NIDAS. We asked Marie to share her experience with NIDAS to show just how valuable our volunteers are to us and all the clients we work with.

I started off wanting to volunteer with NIDAS as I wanted to gain a better understanding of the family court process and how NIDAS works to support families going through what can be several difficult court hearings due to domestic abuse.

I’ve found my time as a volunteer with NIDAS enjoyable and rewarding, it is great to think that you are involved in potentially shaping a brighter future for families.

As well as learning a lot from my NIDAS colleagues, I have been given the opportunity to undertake a variety of training courses that I wouldn’t have had access to before.  All the training gives you the confidence to undertake the tasks required as a volunteer.

I have been involved in many various responsibilities in my time volunteering at NIDAS, including calling clients, attending community events, supporting at groups, supporting clients through court hearings and administration tasks within the office.  All of these have helped me to develop a wide range of skills and new abilities.

The work that the NIDAS team do is amazing, and I am so pleased to be part of the team.

If you would like to volunteer your time to support women and children who are victims of domestic abuse, please find out more here.
