It takes courage to be kind

Each November 13th, the world celebrates World Kindness Day, but here at NIDAS, we believe in being kind every single day.

As a charitable organisation, kindness is something that is embedded into our values, ethos, staff, and is something that underpins all the valuable work that we do. Our team of dedicated support workers see the difference kindness makes firsthand to those who have experienced domestic abuse and trauma.

Our family team and children’s workers have come together to discuss kindness and would like to share one of their favourite stories/reward charts from ELSA Support that they use during their 1:1 sessions in order to promote kindness.

The Starfish Story

The Starfish Story is a beautiful children’s story about making a difference. Whether it’s the smallest thing, or simply saving just one starfish, it can still make a difference. This story inspires children to be kind, helpful, and to make a difference.

To encourage children to do something kind or helpful, the story comes with some lovely activities to complete. Activities include drawing a starfish to complete a grid each time they do something kind or helpful, as well as a starfish colouring activity once their grid is filled in.
